Goodwill Finds & Spooky Season Vibes on Tunnel Road
It’s officially fall in the mountains — the kickoff to spooky season and all the cozy holidays ahead.
If you’ve followed me for a while, you already know one of my favorite local spots year-round is Goodwill on Tunnel Road here in Asheville. This store has always been full of treasures, but lately it needs our community more than ever.
PAID PARTNERSHIP
After Hurricane Helene, this location suffered a noticeable dip in traffic. While they were not flooded, the surrounding road damage caused temporary closures that really impacted their flow. The good news? They’re back open, stocked, and ready to welcome you.
Their merchandise is in great condition — and even better, they’ve partnered with several local stores, so you’ll spot brand-new items still in their packaging alongside those one-of-a-kind thrifted finds we all love. I’ve personally found many name-brand clothing items and housewares that were in excellent condition and priced affordably.
Why You’ll Want to Go Now
If you love Halloween and fall decorating, now is the time to stop by. I’ve already seen:
• Costumes (some new with tags)
• Little black dresses for witches/cats and overalls perfect for scarecrow looks
• Vintage linens for DIY “ghosts”
• Foam pumpkins ready to light up
• Wreaths, décor, and endless creative possibilities for crafting
I even made my own ghosts using repurposed clothes I found there — I cut, frayed, and layered lace into spooky fringe, added little star eyes, and topped it with a mini witch hat that I made with repurposed lace. It turned out adorable and completely one-of-a-kind.
Why It Matters
Asheville is known for being eco-conscious and creative — and right now, shopping secondhand feels especially meaningful. It’s sustainable, affordable, and supports a regional store that’s working hard to rebuild traffic after the storm.
We don’t need more in our landfills this season. Repurposing and reimagining what’s already here is both thrifty and stylish — a very Asheville way to do Halloween.
