Two Domes We Love in Pisgah National Forest
Location: Pisgah National Forest near Brevard, Western North Carolina (about 1 hour from Asheville)
Stay Type: Two geodesic domes with private wellness amenities and layered outdoor living
We fell in love with The Hummingbird — so when we were invited back to Pisgah Domes as some of the first guests to experience their new dome, The Monarch, we didn’t hesitate.
Pisgah Domes is tucked into the hillside of Pisgah National Forest near Brevard, surrounded by trees, mountain air, and that special kind of quiet that helps you slow down almost immediately. It feels secluded without being far from everything, with easy access to hiking, waterfalls, the Davidson River, and town.
What makes this stay stand out is how intentionally everything is done. From the setting to the services, Pisgah Domes removes much of the friction that usually comes with travel and replaces it with ease.
The Hummingbird & The Monarch
The Hummingbird is the original dome and the one we stayed in first. It’s cozy, grounding, and ideal for couples or smaller groups. One of my favorite features is the covered porch beneath the dome with hanging swings — the perfect place to sit, listen to the rain, and fully unplug.
The Monarch, the newest addition, builds on everything we loved about The Hummingbird while offering a little more room to share the experience. Inside, there’s a luxury fold-out couch that comfortably sleeps two additional guests, making it a great option for families or close friends. A skylight above the bed opens the dome to the night sky, creating a quiet stargazing moment you don’t forget.
Both domes share the same layered outdoor living and private wellness setup, including a hot tub, barrel sauna, and cold plunge, Blackstone grill, fire pit, along with multiple outdoor levels that make the space feel relaxed and unhurried.
Thoughtful Add-Ons That Truly Elevate the Stay
One of the reasons we keep talking about Pisgah Domes is the care they put into their add-ons. These aren’t afterthoughts — they’re part of what makes the experience feel so complete.
Arrival can include fresh baked sourdough bread, champagne or sparkling rosé, and a charcuterie board waiting for you. Meal kits are available and make settling in effortless, and the campfire s’mores kits are always a favorite for slow evenings by the fire. You can see some of these from our first visit to The Hummingbird here.
Our favorite add-on by far, though, has been the ATV rental. It’s hands-down one of the best add-ons we’ve experienced anywhere. Whether you’re using it to explore the surrounding area or just enjoying the ride itself, it adds an extra layer of adventure that fits perfectly with the setting.
Why We Keep Coming Back
Pisgah Domes feels restorative in a real way. The wellness amenities aren’t just there to look nice — they’re thoughtfully integrated into the stay. The property is designed into the hillside with layered spaces that give you room to move, rest, and gather without ever feeling crowded.
It also matters that this is a truly family-run place. You can feel the care in the details, from how guests are welcomed to how everything is maintained. You'll get there and not want to leave!
