At 700 square feet, it is the largest transparent dome in the United States, sitting just 20 minutes from downtown Asheville on 20 private acres of forest.
Glassy Stays has thought of every detail, including a retractable ceiling curtain that closes with the touch of a button if you want to block the morning light. For the month of September, a custom sunshade is installed overhead, not only keeping the dome cooler but softening the sound of acorns falling so you can enjoy uninterrupted peace and quiet.
Why the Picnic Add-On Was a Game Changer
One of my favorite parts of the experience was the local picnic add on. I almost always go for any kind of food option when it is available, because as a mom I know how stressful it can be to arrive at a great place, whether it is after a long drive or even a quick staycation, and immediately have to think about feeding everyone. Walking into a stay where food is already waiting feels like such a treat.
If you have been the one planning the whole trip, it is especially nice to feel like someone thought of you, too. Instead of scrambling for dinner, we were able to sit down and enjoy a gluten free picnic made with local food. That detail was extra special to me.
The Magic of the Outdoors
The Glassy Dome has a hidden staircase tucked away. A rose planter slides open and part of the deck reveals a secret passageway. Downstairs, there is a hot tub and lounging area surrounded by woods so quiet you can hear every rustle of the trees.
The outdoor setup also includes a fire pit, picnic tables, and string lights hanging from the trees. You can switch them off to enjoy the dark sky or leave them glowing for a magical forest scene.
We were lucky enough to see wildlife while we were there. A giant buck with a full rack of points, a bunny, and even a doe with two fawns. It felt like something out of Sleeping Beauty, especially paired with the luxuries waiting inside.
Comfort Meets Luxury
Walking through the glass door, you realize there are no walls dividing you from the forest view. The dome is one open studio with a separate bathroom, and everything inside feels upscale.
I was impressed with the full size refrigerator, a fully stocked kitchen with gorgeous pots and pans, an incredible assortment of spices, and gold silverware that made even simple meals feel special.
The living area has a sleek fireplace, a workstation, and comfortable seating. The bed is dreamy, and there is also a fold out couch that turns into a king size bed without springs, making it surprisingly comfortable.
Everything feels thoughtful and high end, from the bathrobes to Alexa greeting you with your favorite music when you walk in the door.
At night, you can even play with the lighting. Switch to a soft glow for a cozy atmosphere, or turn up the fun and set it to disco mode.
All the comforts
The private hot tub is included with your stay, but there are other add ons that make the experience even better. There is a cold plunge for those who want it, and you can add a s’mores kit for the perfect fire pit night.
The space is perfect for two but can host up to four with the fold out couch.
We happened to catch a rainy day, which made the whole experience feel extra cozy. I kept imagining how magical it must be in fall when the leaves are drifting down, or in winter with snow all around. No matter the season, this place feels unforgettable.
