Slow Down Asheville Celebrates 10 Years of Keeping Our Roads Safe

Peak leaf season has been unfolding across parts of Western North Carolina, and now Asheville is about to have its time to shine. That means more visitors on our roads, more hikers and cyclists exploring the mountains, and more opportunities to remind our youngest passengers what it means to share the road safely.

For 10 years, the Slow Down Asheville campaign has been raising awareness about road safety through free yard signs and community education. This year, they’ve decided to bring a little new life to the message with something fun for the whole family: a road safety bingo card!

While you’re out spotting colorful leaves, exploring scenic overlooks, and teaching your kids how cooler temperatures and elevation create the beautiful fall colors we love, start building another important skill: recognizing the many people and animals who share our roads.

From pedestrians and crosswalks to hikers, bicyclists, motorcyclists, and wildlife, the bingo card encourages kids to pay attention to their surroundings and become more aware of others who share the road. It’s a simple way to turn a family drive into a fun learning experience and start conversations about how we can all help keep our roads safe.
