If you know Cory Wall, you know that to know her is to love her. She has helped bring Fairview together through the holiday parade and Fairview Farm Fridays at Root Cause Farm, creating moments of joy and connection, especially after Hurricane Helene.
So when Cory asked me to partner on what’s basically a love letter to Fairview, the answer was an easy yes. There’s so much to discover here, from great food and local shops to farms, ice cream, coffee and fun places to spend an afternoon.
First, Let’s Welcome Fairview’s Newest Business!
AF International Market is one of Fairview’s newest additions, and we’re excited to welcome them to the community! Stop in for international groceries, specialty ingredients, and fresh produce. They’ve also been welcoming food trucks, so keep an eye out for what’s happening there.
Make Time for a Workout at Specialized Fitness & Nutrition
I know where to find the sweet treats around Fairview, but I didn’t even realize we had a gym like this! Cory loves Specialized Fitness & Nutrition and talks about it often. With 24-hour gym access, personal training and nutrition coaching, it’s a great local resource for anyone ready to focus on their health.
Hilltop Ice Cream Is Worth the Stop
Hilltop knows how to make a great scoop. They pay attention to seasonal produce, and you can taste it. Their strawberry flavor actually tastes like strawberries, and they have milkshakes, banana splits and gluten-free sugar cones, too. Save room for the house-made hot fudge. It’s amazing.
Coffee, Books and Something Sweet at Daymoon Coffeebar
Daymoon is a cozy stop for coffee, books, and baked treats. They also offer gluten-free options, although availability can vary. It’s an easy place to slow down and enjoy a little time in Fairview.
Don’t Miss The Local Joint
The Local Joint is one of those places that deserves a little extra love. I made an Instagram video about it that took off, and it’s easy to see why. The entrance is tucked around the side by the gas station, and inside you’ll find an eclectic atmosphere, wonderful people and food that keeps you coming back. Their shrimp and grits are among the best I’ve had, and don’t skip dessert. You’ll feel more like a friend than a customer.
Right next door, The Joint Next Door gives you another reason to linger in the area.
Visit Hickory Nut Gap Farm
Hickory Nut Gap Farm is a Fairview favorite for pasture-raised meats, a farm store and local provisions. Depending on the season, you can find farm activities, vendor markets, barn dances and hayrides. Project HNG also offers community programs, including horseback riding lessons.
It’s a wonderful place to connect with the land and experience a little more of what makes this area special.
Flowers, Produce and Seasonal Finds at Flying Cloud Farm
Keep an eye out for Flying Cloud Farm’s self-serve roadside stand, where you can find seasonal flowers, vegetables and other farm-grown treasures. The stand operates on the honor system and is on the right as you head toward Hickory Nut Gap Farm.
When the growing season winds down, the farm’s offerings change with the season. I’ve heard the owner makes some really cool wreaths using dried okra pods and other natural materials. Follow along for seasonal updates and see what’s available when you visit.
Root Cause Farm: Growing More Than Food
Root Cause Farm grows fresh produce for community members experiencing food insecurity and welcomes volunteers who want to help with its mission. It’s also the home of Fairview Farm Fridays, the community gatherings Cory helped bring to life.
These events bring together local vendors, music and neighbors for a meaningful celebration of community.
Shop Local at Magic Rocket Vintage
If you love vintage finds, pre-loved clothing and one-of-a-kind pieces, make time for Magic Rocket Vintage. You’ll find vintage treasures, local art and pieces from makers that make browsing part of the fun.
More Places to Eat, Shop and Explore
Sky Mountain Pizza
Looking for pizza night? Sky Mountain Pizza is a takeout-only spot right across from the Fairview Library. Call ahead, grab a pie and make an evening of it.
Fairview Library
This precious neighborhood library deserves a shout-out of its own. Along with books, it has a used bookstore, a seed library, an art exhibit space, games and puzzles to check out, and outdoor seating. The library and its Friends organization help bring the community together through programs and events. Check the calendar before you visit to see what’s happening.
Smokey & the Pig
You can practically smell the smokehouse as you come into Fairview, so you’ll know you’re getting close! If barbecue is calling your name, Smokey & the Pig is a local stop to put on your list.
Piazza at Olde Eastwood Village
At Olde Eastwood Village, between Asheville and Fairview, Piazza is worth the short trip for wood-fired pizza, pasta, and Italian favorites.
Trout Lily Deli & Market
Trout Lily Deli & Market is a local stop for deli favorites, specialty groceries, and provisions to take along for the day. It’s a handy place to pick up something for a picnic or stock up on local finds.
Terramonga Local Provisions & Deli
If you love a good sandwich, make time for Terramonga. Known for its deli sandwiches and local provisions, it’s a great stop for a satisfying lunch or something delicious to take home.
Americare Pharmacy
Independent community businesses like Americare Pharmacy are part of what makes a place feel like home. It’s another reminder that Fairview is a community with plenty of local places worth supporting.
Make an Afternoon of It at Whistle Hop Brewing
Whistle Hop is a family-run brewery right here in Fairview, but there’s much more to the grounds than the taproom. The railroad-inspired setting features restored train cars, mini golf, outdoor games, a kids’ play area with a climbing structure and big tube slide, and a small soccer field.
Add food trucks and live music, and you have a place where families and friends can spend a good part of the afternoon. Check their website or social media for current activities, food trucks, and events before heading over.
Another local option is Turgua Brewing, with a relaxed creekside setting, outdoor space, and community events. It’s another place to know if you’re exploring Fairview and looking for somewhere to unwind.
A New Chapter for Wilderness Muse
Wilderness Muse Creative Marketplace transformed a former gas station car wash into a home for regional artists, makers and small businesses. With more than 60 artisans represented, it has been a wonderful place to find unique gifts, art, jewelry, and other creative treasures.
Owner Leigh Shultis has announced that the marketplace will close at the end of the year. But she’s keeping two of the renovated car wash spaces, with something exciting in the works. If Leigh is involved, we know it’s going to be good.
There are still two months to visit, shop, and support this special little spot before its next chapter begins.
Why Fairview Is Worth Exploring
Fairview is more than a place to drive through on your way somewhere else. It’s a place to grab ice cream, discover a new favorite restaurant, visit a farm, shop from local makers, and spend time in a community that shows up for one another.
